2004 Rural Tracker polls
National
media pays attention to rural
The Center for Rural Strategies polled rural voters in 17 states about the 2004 presidential race. We worked with print and broadcast journalists to disseminate the results in an attempt to attract greater attention to rural issues.
A bi-partisan team helped us analyze the data and speak to the media about what we saw. We are grateful to Anna Greenberg (Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research) and Bill Greener (Greener and Hook) for their efforts to make this possible.
Information from the October poll: Bush maintains lead in rural battleground
The third and final poll of rural voters in battleground states shows that Republican George W. Bush holds a 12 point lead over Democrat John Kerry. Republican analyst Bill Greener says Bush has solidified his base in rural America and is en route to victory. Democratic analyst Anna Greenberg says Kerry's performance among blue collar wokers in the last month holds promise for continued improvement. The rural vote remains critical to both candidates, as evidenced by their campaign schedules, which continue to include rural parts of battleground states. The poll was released on October 23, 2004.

Information from the June poll: The road to the White House is a rural route
A first-of-its-kind poll of rural voters in 17 states shows that the presidential race there is closer than expected. Republican George W. Bush leads Democrat John Kerry there by 9 percentage points. The size of this lead will be critical in determining who wins closely contested states and, therefore, the presidency. The poll was released on June 28, 2004.
