Rural Reality
CBS television never produced the "Real Beverly Hillbillies." They did not explain why or say that it would not be produced. They just stopped talking about it.

We count that as a victory for rural America.

Rural Advocacy Group Opens Round II of
Fight Against Hillbillies Reality Show

Campaign Continues

WHITESBURG, KY—Today the Center for Rural Strategies launched a second round of ads to confront CBS for their plans to air a reality show based on their old Beverly Hillbillies sitcom. The ads will run this week in The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, and The Nashville Tennessean.

“We are overwhelmed by the groundswell of support we have been receiving from different groups and individuals across the US and from around the world,” said Dee Davis, president of the Center for Rural Strategies. It is clear that we have connected with a large segment of the public and they are outraged by CBS’s poor judgment. We have received thousands of emails in support of the campaign and tens of thousands of visitors to our website. Among them we have received over 1400 visits from military personnel and more than 600 hits from people at CBS.”

Yesterday, Rural Strategies wrote to Les Moonves, CBS’s president to ask him to reconsider going forward with the show. Additionally, Rural Strategies will be contacting potential advertisers of the show to enlist their support.

Dee Davis said, “We believe that Americans should get an honest portrayal of rural life and not just stereotypical characters. We’re going to keep up the effort until CBS decides it’s time to do the right thing.”

The Center for Rural Strategies is a non-profit organization that seeks to improve rural life by increasing public understanding about the importance and value of rural communities.
