CBS television never produced the "Real Beverly Hillbillies." They did not explain why or say that it would not be produced. They just stopped talking about it.
We count that as a victory for rural America.

Members of Congress Join Rogers in Asking CBS to Stop Hillbilly Reality Program
WASHINGTON, DC - Members of the U.S. House of Representatives have joined U.S. Congressman Hal Rogers (R-KY) in asking CBS to immediately stop efforts to create a new reality television series called "The Real Beverly Hillbillies." In a joint letter to CBS President Leslie Moonves, 44 Members of Congress expressed outrage over the program.
"I am pleased that so many of my colleagues have joined the fight against this terrible program," said Rogers. "Together we are sending a clear message that this type of trash should have no place on the public airwaves."
On March 5, 2003, Rogers sent a letter to Moonves, asking CBS to pull the plug on the proposed program, which will move a family from rural Appalachia to a Beverly Hills mansion and tape their life for a year. After receiving positive feedback from Kentuckians and people throughout America, Rogers asked other Members of Congress to join in expressing opposition to the television show. Rogers gathered signatures from his colleagues over the past week. CBS has yet to respond to Rogers' original correspondence on the subject.
For the past 23 years, Rogers has served as the United States Congressman for Kentucky's 5th Congressional District, which is located in southern and eastern Kentucky. His mission has always remained the same: to bring jobs, better education, and more opportunities to the families he represents.
