U.S. soldiers from rural communities are dying at a higher rate in Iraq and Afghanistan than soldiers from larger metropolitan areas. This according to a study to be released by the Carsey Institute, a think tank at the University of New Hampshire. With more rural men and women seeking military job opportunities, their small communities are in turn suffering higher rates of loss.
The Center for Rural Strategies is providing a 2-minute VIDEO NEWS REPORT on this study of rural casualty rates. The segment provides first hand testimony from combat veteran Blake Ordner of Moorhead, MN, a former Army Ranger who currently serves as Lieutenant Colonel in the Virginia National Guard and as Associate Legislative Director for the Paralyzed Veterans of America. The segment will also offer expert analysis from statistician William O’Hare who participated in the study.
The video available for download at no cost to stations as broadcast-quality MPEG, either in its entirety or as clips. NARRATION and NAT SOUND will be on separate audio tracks. A script and information on how to localize the news story will also be provided.
